JAKET Foundation/PCCF Partnership Helps Move the Needle on the Arts

Arts Vibrancy Index for Park County

The JAKET Foundation and Park County Community Foundation philanthropic partnership with a focus on grants for the arts has helped to “move the needle” such that Park County has risen in both state and national notice.

Park County scored in the top 12% of all counties in the nation, based on an independent assessment of arts vibrancy among more than 3,100 counties.

The assessment was based upon: the hard work and collaboration of art providers (number of artists, organizations, employees, firms), art dollars (programming, revenue, expenses, compensation), and public support (total government support, state arts funding, and federal arts funding) for arts and culture.

Thanks to the JAKET Foundation funding of $500,000 for the arts, PCCF has awarded eight grants to nine worthy organizations (see the list below).

Some Highlights

  • The Park County Council for the Arts (PCCArts) was created as a 501c3, launched its website, and began strong communication and unification of the arts community through access to a calendar and listings of local art providers.

  • PCCArts launched its inaugural Artists Laureate Program to celebrate current and past artists in Park County, and gave the inaugural award.

  • ArtWeek Park County celebrated and promoted the county arts community, including over 70 collaborators, offered nearly 100 events including workshops, demonstrations, special exhibits, plays and readings, youth programs, an art auction and more.

  • Arts programming in Park County schools was strengthened with grant funding.

Who Benefits from Arts Funding?

  • Our local economy, which is heavily reliant on tourism;

  • Our cultural identity and legacy, where extraordinary natural beauty and arts have intersected for generations.

  • The mental wellbeing of residents, by creating a sense of creativity and belonging in a county with one of the highest suicide rates in the country;

  • Creative thinking and problem solving of our children in schools that cannot afford arts education.
