On Monday, September 22, Storrs Bishop, will present a short lecture and engaging conversation at the Park County Community Foundation office about Russell Chatham’s early years in Livingston and his impact on the community’s development as an art community. PCCF is hosting the event to showcase the collection of Russell Chatham lithographs it is displaying on loan from the Danforth Museum of Art's permanent collection. The event is part of the ArtWeek Park County Festival programming.
Storrs Bishop is the executive director and curator at the Danforth Museum of Art (DMA). Bishop wrote his art history master’s thesis, "Chathamesque: Russell Chatham’s Montana Vernacular” in 2024. This talk, and its ensuing conversation with the audience, will help set the context for ArtWeek Park County and how Livingston has become what it is today.
“People familiar with (Chatham’s) work, especially those living in rural Park County, Montana, might look out their window and call the view, ‘Chathamesque.’ This term…became tightly bound to his artistic style and public identity.”
The event will be held at the PCCF office at 104 South Main St., Livingston MT.
Doors open at 5:00 and the talk runs from 5:30–6:30 PM
Admission is free.
