Marketing is the most critical discipline needed for nonprofit organization success. Nonprofits need marketing to raise funds, reach customers, recruit volunteers, and establish a brand for the organization that sets it apart from the competition. So they why are so many nonprofit organizations lax in their marketing efforts?

The answer may be that nonprofits don’t know the value or marketing. It’s also possible that some nonprofit managers and boards simply don’t know how to market their nonprofit. But the most likely reason is that nonprofit staffs and boards simply don’t have the time, people, or resources to dedicate to a true marketing effort.

So what’s a nonprofit to do?
