Sense of Community Action Plans

Fostering Community Engagement

Juvenile Crime

The PCCF is working with the Southwest Chemical Dependency Program, Park County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Livingston Police Department along with other organizations that work with adolescents, families and community members helping provide education regarding risk behavior and offering prevention programs. These organizations working together and are called the Park County Prevention Coalition and meet monthly in Livingston.

The group is currently working on identifying an inventory of available programs to help reduce risk behavior, and also to identify additional data point (indicators) that we may establish to monitor progress. Our goal is to identify an action plan for this group to work on collectively toward reducing risk behavior in Park County.  The next meeting will be scheduled in May.

Park High SchoolEarly Childhood Education

On October 19, 2010 PCCF gathered approximately 40 people including: preschool and daycare providers, kindergarten teachers, parents, and programs that serve children in Park County. This gathering is the first of a series to increase awareness of Early Childhood Education players and maintain the tightest Early Childhood Education network possible. There are about 140 kids that enter kindergarten each year in Park County, and as a community we can all work together to make sure these kids are receiving the education they need prior to entering the school system. This meeting reviewed reading scores, kindergarten preparedness and the percentage of kids participating in area preschool or daycare programs.  Areas to strengthen access and quality were also discussed. Follow up conversations will follow on items like Ready, Set, Grow, a "welcome wagon" at the hospital for new parents, childcare access in Pray/Emigrant area, and consistent use of the same school readiness checklist throughout the county.

Since the large meeting in October, PCCF has been meeting with smaller groups to see how we can help push some of the above initiatives to fruition. With the help of many PCCF hopes to see some childcare provider classes going some time this summer.

Post High School Mapping

Data is being collected from three different sources to address the issues in high school. Dropouts in Park High School are being monitored closely, the High School Survey of Student Engagement has been completed, and we are working with the curriculum director for Livingston School Districts, Todd Wester, to identify the number of kids going on to two or four year schools after graduation. Everything is coming together slowly and PCCF looks forward to sharing the data with everyone as soon as it is compiled and ready to go.

PCCF looks forward to some rich conversation around this information when it is presented!
