Employment growth is an essential component of a thriving economy. Total number of jobs helps monitor employment growth and the growth in employment opportunities in the community.

Total Number of Jobs

The number of jobs includes private and public, full-time and part-time, and self-employment as well as wage and salary employment.

• was 9,576 in 2009, compared to 4,612 in 1969.
• increased by 108 percent between 1969 and 2009, compared to an increase of 110 percent in Montana.
• increased by 34 percent in the 1970s, increased by 5 percent in the 1980s, increased by 34 percent in the 1990s, and increased by 9 percent between 2000-2009
• ranked 11th – from most to least – among the 56 counties in 2009.
